Workshops
Some members of Muswell Hill Creatives teach their craft alongside making. If you are looking to learn a new skill, then we have some great options for you.
Papershade making with Ros Freeborn
Ros Freeborn runs Papershades workshops at her Muswell Hill studio. A workshop lasts around three hours and costs £55 per person. You’ll have a huge choice of paper with which to create a paper collage design on A4 card which is then printed on the spot. Everyone goes home with a beautiful and totally unique paper lampshade. Workshops are relaxed and fun and easy for anyone to take part. And there will be cake! See Ros's website for more information and booking dates.

Gel printing workshops with Mollie Weston, Art With Mollie
Mollie runs gel printing workshops from her Bounds Green home for groups of 4-6 people. Afternoon workshops run from 2-5pm and include tea, coffee and homemade cakes. Evening workshops are 7pm-10pm and include prosecco, Pimms and tasty nibbles! The afternoon sessions are £45 and the evening sessions £55.
At the workshops you will learn how to gel print. This simple printmaking process uses acrylic paints and a 'gel' plate - a soft rectangle which is animal cruelty free. Unlike other methods of printing, no printing press is necessary. Mollie will teach you all the basic techniques you need for a fun two hour session of experimentation, to create a selection of prints which can be taken home and framed or turned into beautiful handmade cards.

Bookbinding with Amy Kitcherside, The Idle Bindery
Amy of The Idle Bindery works in collaboration with Marmor Paperie, a paper marbler, to run full day marbling and bookbinding workshops at Cockpit Arts in Deptford.
These will first teach you how to ‘paint on water’ using centuries-old marbling techniques to create your own colourful papers – you will then be guided through the process of using your marbled papers to make three books, giving you an introductory look at the traditional craft of bookbinding.
The 3 hours of marbling in the morning are led by Lucy McGrath of Marmor Paperie. Then after lunch Amy takes you through the process of using your marbled papers to create three books. You we’ll start with a simple, but effective, 3 hole pamphlet stitch, before moving on to a beautiful Japanese stab binding and finishing with a concertina book.
You’ll be introduced to some standard bookbinding equipment and tools, including items you can source yourself at home for future projects, and be taught the basics of bookbinding. Students will each leave with three handmade books covered with their own marbled paper as well as any additional marbled papers left over from the morning.
